PHOTOS | Show of revolutionary unity, strength in Southern Tagalog

January 2, 2017

A few images of the revolutionary celebration of the 48th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines in Sierra Madre mountains.

Sidelined for a few days by Typhoon Nina, the New People’s Army-Melito Glor Command’s celebration of the 48th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) finally pushed through like many other celebrations in guerrilla zones across the country. It was, indeed a show of strength, an incontrovertible proof of the revolution’s strength, youth and vigor. But as with the National Peace Assembly in Paquibato district of Davao City, the celebration ni Sierra Madre showed the revolutionaries’ determination to support the peace negotiations–as long as the objective of addressing the root causes of the armed conflict are addressed. The Melito Glor Command’s spokesperson, Jaime “Ka Diego” Padilla, once again faced reporters and photographers to discuss the situation in Southern Tagalog as far as the ceasefire goes. They are committed to peace, he says, but one that is lasting and will usher in national freedom and democracy in the country.
