Sa bisperas ng Marso 8, Pandaigdigang Araw ng Kababaihan, dinahas ng pulisya ang kababaihang pinoprotesta ang umano’y pagkakanulo ni Pangulong Aquino sa mga mamamayan nito, sa usapin ng Sabah at sa pagsadsad ng USS Guardian sa Tubbataha Reef. Mapayapa nang nagdidispers ang nagprotestang kababaihan nang damputin at arestuhin ng mga miyembro ng Manila Police District ang dalawa sa kanila.

Sa panayam na ito ng Pinoy Weekly, tinawag ni Joms Salvador, pangkalahatang kalihim ng Gabriela, si Aquino na “unfit” para maging isang pangulo.

Coconut farmers recently formed a group, CLAIM (Coco Levy Funds Ibalik Sa Amin), to demand the return of the multi-billion peso coco levy funds that were extracted from small farmers during martial law.

Late last year, P56 Billion of the coco levy funds were remitted to the National Treasury. The Aquino administration formed the Presidential Task Force on Coco Levy Funds headed by National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) to administer the funds.

But farmers say that the funds are in danger of being corrupted by government officials and used for other purposes, such as the Conditional Cash Transfer and the “bogus” Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

This video documents a three-day protest of coconut farmers, including a siege of the NAPC office, to underscore their demands. They are proposing the creation of a council composed of small coconut farmers, which will allow them to administer the funds themselves.

Nitong nakaraang linggo, serye ng protesta ang nilahukan sa Kamaynilaan ng mga lider-Katutubo mula sa iba’t ibang rehiyon ng Mindanao. Mula sila sa mga lugar kung saan may matinding militarisasyon — na may kalakip na malawakang paglabag sa kanilang mga karapatang pantao. Sa mga lugar ding ito, may nakaambang malawakang komersiyal na pagmimina, pagtotroso o kumbersiyon sa lupa na magtataboy sa mga katutubo at wawasak sa kapaligiran.

Maraming kaso ng pamamaslang, pagdukot, pananakot, tortyur, at iba pang abuso, ang naranasan ng mga mamamayan sa kamay ng militar at iba pang puwersa ng estado na nagpapatupad ng programang kontra-insurhensiya na Oplan Bayanihan.

Nitong Disyembre 10, 2012, pandaigdigang araw ng karapatang pantao, dumulo ang kanilang martsa — kasama ang iba’t ibang sektor mula sa Timog Katagalugan at National Capital Region — sa paanan ng Malakanyang sa Chino Roces (dating Mendiola) Bridge, Manila. Mas malakas nilang inihayag sa Pangulo na kailangang ihinto ang pampulitikang panunupil at ang programang kontra-insurhensiya ng kanyang administrasyon.
