Here is an alarming statistic: About 3,000 Lumad children have been denied of their right to education because of the Aquino administration’s counter-insurgency military offensives in Mindanao. And in the center of it all–along with the various units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, of course–is the Department of Education itself, with its Davao del Norte division leading the shut down of Lumad community schools. And although DepED Region XI has reportedly backed down on its proposals to shut down the schools, it has so far refused to release these institutions’ permits.

Here are the other alarming facts and figures on the extent of military attacks on Lumad community schools in Mindanao. The infographic was prepared by the Save Our Schools Network, which campaigns against militarization of schools across the country.
