September 3, 2016

The NPA released at least five prisoners-of-war last week to contribute to favorable conditions for the formal peace negotiations.

Revolutionary forces in the North Eastern Mindanao Region last week released at least five prisoners-of-war (POW) that coincided with the successful conclusion of formal talks between the Duterte administration and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) in Oslo, Norway.

Among the POW policemen who were released were PO1 Richard Yu of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Carmen in Surigao del Sur; PO2 Caleb Sinaca, PO3 Jayroll Bagayas and NPU Rodrigo Angob of the Malimono Municipal Police Station and SPO3 Santiago Lamanilao of the Surigao City Police Office in Surigao del Norte.

Facilitated by local government officials and church leaders, the release was made as a goodwill measure for the ongoing peace negotiations, reported Davao Today, quoted local New People’s Army (NPA) leaders.

The NPA in the said region charged the captured policemen with heavy involvement in the illegal drug operations in there.

Here are some of the contributed photos on the releases somewhere in the hinterlands of Surigao del Sur and Norte:
