Youth groups led by Kabataan Party-list urged the youth to “swim against the current” and participate in the 2016 elections.

Kabataan launched its initiative to raise one million registered youth voters in a press conference was held at the Amoranto Stadium swimming pool in Quezon City .

“We are swimming to register the youth’s commitment for change in the upcoming elections. We aim to raise the level of youth participation by encouraging and helping them to register as voters,” Kabataan Rep. Terry Ridon said, echoing the student and youth organizations that called on “Isang Milyon, Isang Panata”.

Ridon said that the message of the event “is to beat the heat of traditional politics, and swim against the current of apathy.”

“Less than a year from now, the nation will once again select its new set of leaders. As early as now, we call on aspiring candidates, both on the local and national level, to act upon the problems assailing our youth,” Ridon added.
