Last August 7, artists and concerned Filipino citizens held a protest action at the Boy Scouts Circle in Timog Ave., Quezon City to condemn the US-Israeli attacks on Gaza and to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Led by the Concerned Artists of the Philippines, around 100 artists and citizens condemned the “murderous onslaught” of Israel in Palestine. They condemned as well the “unconditional support” to the Israel of the Aquino administration, an ally of the US.
“We, artists from different fields, gather here today to show our solidarity with the Palestinian people’s call to end the attacks and atrocities against them,” said visual artist Renan Ortiz, CAP spokesperson.
More than 1,938 Palestinians have been killed and 8,000 wounded in the Israeli offensive that started almost a month ago.
Ortiz pointed out that US military aid–amounting to $3 Billion per year–has been instrumental in the occupation of Palestine.
He further said that the use by Israel of white phosphorous bombs, a weapon prohibited under the Geneva Convention, is a “crime against humanity.”
The group also scored the US government’s vote against the resolution of the United Nations’ Human Rights Council that calls for respect of international law in the occupied Palestinian territories.
“We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. We support their struggle to uphold, defend and advance their rights to national self-determination and liberation against Israeli aggression, occupation, and oppression,” Ortiz said.
