Pabalik ng bansa si Melissa Roxas, ang Pilipino-Amerikanong aktibista na dinukot at tinortyur diumano ng militar noong Mayo.

Determinado siyang ipagpatuloy ang paghabla sa gobyernong Arroyo sa pagdukot at pagtortyur sa kanya at sa mga kasamahang sina Juanito Carabeo at John Edward Handoc sa La Paz, Tarlac, ayon kay Renato Reyes Jr., pangkahalatang kalihim ng Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan).

Bago umalis sa bansa noong nakaraang buwan, nagsampa si Roxas ng writ of amparo sa Korte Suprema kontra sa mga dumukot umano sa kanya.

“Pinupuri namin ang tapang niya sa pagbalik sa Pilipinas. Pinabubulaanan lamang ang determinasyon niyang patunayan na dinukot at tinortyur siya ang sabi ng militar na gawa-gawa lamang ang nangyari sa kanya,” sabi ni Reyes.

Mula sa US, kasama ni Roxas ang mga delegado ng California-Nevada Conference ng United Methodist Church sa US. Papunta umano sila sa Pilipinas para sa isang fact-finding mission. Sila rin ang parehong grupo na nag-lobby sa Senado ng US noong 2007 hinggil sa rekord ng gobyernong Arroyo sa pampulitikang pamamaslang.

Nagtakda ng pagdinig ang Court of Appeals sa kaso ng Roxas sa Hulyo 30. Sa parehong araw, nakatakdang makipagkita si Pangulong Arroyo kay US Pres. Barack Obama.

“Dapat magsilbing babala sa gobyerno ng US ang testimonya sa walang-pakundangang suporta ng gobyernong Arroyo na nagresulta sa mga paglabag sa karapatang pantao, kabilang ang laban sa isang American citizen,” sabi pa ni Reyes.
